Coolmore’s M.V. Magnier, Peter Brant, and Winchell Thoroughbreds teamed up to land the colt with a black-type-drenched pedigree. The colt crowned the first session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale that produced 15 seven-figure sales.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club celebrated the conclusion of its 86th summer racing season Sept. 7, reporting substantial increases in wagering—both total and average daily—as well as field size over the 2024 summer meeting.

Coolmore’s M.V. Magnier and owner/breeder Peter Brant teamed up to land the colt with a black-type-drenched pedigree. The dark bay or brown colt crowned the first session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale that produced 15 seven-figure sales.

A filly (Hip 144) by leading sire Not This Time became the top-selling filly during the Sept. 8 opening day of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, selling for $2 million to Cindy Heider. The filly was bred and sold by Hinkle Farms.

Japan owner Naohiro Sakaguchi went to $1.7 million for a Flightline colt (Hip 45), and then went to $1.5 million (Hip 168) for a filly by the 2022 Horse of the Year later in the session.

Fastnet Rock, one of Australia’s most influential stallions, has died at the age of 24. Coolmore Australia, where the son of Danehill was born, raised and later stood as a successful stallion, announced the news the morning of Sept. 8. 

The official Road to the Kentucky Derby will begin Sept. 13 at the home of America’s greatest race as Churchill Downs stages the 44th running of the $300,000 Iroquois Stakes (G3) for 2-year-olds at one mile.
