Highlights from the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale

There was plenty of anticipation in the Humphrey S. Finney Sales Pavilion as the half sister to this year’s Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Journalism arrived in the ring as Hip 165 for the final session of Fasig-Tipton’s The Saratoga Sale.

The buyer of Flightline in 2019, West Point Thoroughbreds went to seven figures each for a filly and a colt by the 2022 Horse of the Year.

Mike Repole went to $1,025,000 to acquire a half sister to Seize the Grey, by first-crop yearling sire Life Is Good, out of the Mill Ridge Sales consignment Aug. 5 at The Saratoga Sale, Fasig-Tipton’s select yearling sale.

Zedan and Lanni purchased the sale topper in both of the last two years, and they just missed making it three in a row.

Near the end of the final session of Fasig-Tipton’s 104th The Saratoga Sale, Resolute Bloodstock went to $3 million for a son of Spendthrift Farm’s Into Mischief. The colt is the second foal of the graded stakes-placed Bernardini mare Lady Kate.

Spendthrift Farm signed the ticket for a colt out of their leading sire Into Mischief for $2.6 million on the final night of Fasig-Tipton’s The Saratoga Sale Aug. 5. He is out of the grade 1-winning mare I’m a Chatterbox.

Repole Stable and Grandview went to $1.4 million to secure Hip 150, a son of Not This Time out of the Ghostzapper mare Mariah’s Princess during the final session of Fasig-Tipton’s The Saratoga Sale Aug. 5.

On Aug. 9 at Colonial Downs, Duvet Day will race a little further—but not quite as far as she did during her younger days—when she steps up in class to compete in the $500,000 Beverly D. Stakes (G2T) over 1 3/16 miles.
