Owner Naohiro Sakaguchi from Japan went to $1.7 million for a Flightline colt (Hip 45), and then went to $1.5 million (Hip 168) for a filly by the 2022 Horse of the Year later in the session.

Coolmore’s M.V. Magnier, Peter Brant, and Winchell Thoroughbreds teamed up to land the colt with a black-type-drenched pedigree. The colt crowned the first session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale that produced 15 seven-figure sales.

A filly (Hip 144) by leading sire Not This Time became the top-selling filly during the Sept. 8 opening day of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, selling for $2 million to Cindy Heider. The filly was bred and sold by Hinkle Farms.
