A January recommendation by the Maryland Thoroughbred Racetrack Operating Authority to renovate Pimlico and move the state’s racing operations to a state-owned, nonprofit-managed arrangement has taken a significant step toward becoming reality.

Trainer Milton Pineda has been suspended 15 years and fined $180,000 plus an additional $15,000 for the cost of arbitrational services by the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit. The punishments were posted on HIWU’s website March 13.
