WinStar Farm announced Jan. 7 the hiring of Gareth Wigley as the newest member of its Stallion Season Sales team.

Shancelot, a graded stakes winner who finished second to champion Mitole in the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Santa Anita Park, has been retired due to a tendon injury, trainer Steve Asmussen said.

Stallion masters hoping to stand a stakes-performing son of Camelot are in luck as Daniel Macauliffe and Anoj Don have called time on Fighting Irish’s racing days and are now on the lookout for a place at stud for their group 2 winner. 

The Jan. 9 edition of the one-mile Tropical Turf Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream Park could play a big role in catapulting some of the eight starters back into high-level graded stakes competition.

Oleksandra, who took down the boys in the Jaipur Stakes (G1T), will aim to rebound from her off-the-board Breeders’ Cup effort when she takes on six other fillies and mares in the $100,000 Las Cienegas Stakes (G3T) Jan. 9 at Santa Anita Park.

Golden Gate Fields, closed since mid-November after an outbreak of COVID-19 cases there, largely among its backstretch workers, will resume live racing Jan. 15, the track announced Jan. 8.

Freshman sire and multiple grade 1 winner Dortmund was exported Dec. 22 to South Korea where he will stand as the property of a Korean ophthalmologist, according to owner/breeder Kaleem Shah.

Kerri Radcliffe will watch Away Game in the Jan. 16 Magic Millions 3-year-old Guineas from the same spot as when the filly took out last year’s Magic Millions 2-year-old Classic, 14,500 kilometers away in Kentucky.
