There are no points races on the Road to the Kentucky Derby this weekend, but one stakes race at Santa Anita Park Jan. 15 may have the potential to produce a 3-year-old that could advance into the series.

Third-crop sire Gem Heist, a son of Street Cry out of Tapit’s grade 1-winning millionaire Careless Jewel, has been relocated to Rancho San Miguel near San Miguel, Calif., for the 2022 breeding season. His fee is $2,500 with a live foal guarantee.

Godolphin brought a draft of 26 mares to the Jan. 13 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale, and all changed hands to make Sheikh Mohammed’s global operation the leading consignor of the sale’s third session with gross receipts of $1,434,500. 

An intended winter comeback for Godolphin’s Mystic Guide, winner of the 2021 Dubai World Cup (G1), has been delayed after the 5-year-old Ghostzapper horse encountered a physical setback while training this winter, trainer Mike Stidham said.

The sire’s first foals include a filly out of grade 1 winner Concrete Rose.

Oaklawn Park-based Dash Attack is scheduled to return to the work tab this weekend in preparation for the Jan.29 $750,000 Southwest Stakes (G3), according to trainer Ken McPeek.
