The Aug. 29 Shared Belief Stakes at Del Mar and the Sept. 25 Pennsylvania Derby (G1) at Parx Racing appear to be leading race options for Zedan Racing Stables’ Medina Spirit.

In the last five years alone, two fillies, Holy Helena and Wonder Gadot, have conquered their male foes. So it should come as no surprise as one of the favorites in this year’s running of the CA$1,000,000 Queen’s Plate is, in fact, a filly.

The improvement William Jarvis has wrought from Lady Bowthorpe at 5 is impressive and when she finally landed her group 1 in the Nassau Stakes (G1). She’s back at the top level again for the Aug. 22 Prix Jean Romanet (G1).

A number of prominent graded stakes contenders for the Aug. 28 card at Saratoga Race Course breezed the morning of Aug. 21, including Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Essential Quality, the likely favorite for the $1.25 million Travers Stakes (G1).

There are a couple of ways in which this year’s Prix Morny (G1) differs from a typical running of the race, and which may in turn increase the number of genuine pretenders to succeed last year’s winner Campanelle.
